During class, our group discussed change/adaption of the character in Middlesex. Through this activity, I think it helped me about the brainstorming for inquiry2. Also I have some new thought by sharing the opinion with my group. I will pick up a topic and list a rough structure about my inquiry before Friday and I will go back to chapters to find more details to support my argument.
Everyone has own experience, life style and story, which make him or her to be specific. Those things just like enzyme in biology that can be an enhancer, which can make you feel happy, or be a repressor, which may bring sorrow to you. But, just these things color the blank paper of life. In the movie, Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, the characters in the movie have their “painting work” of life. A classic French film, full of feelings of French romanticism, despair, loneliness, anxiety, loneliness, radical, positive, kind-hearted. After close reading this movie, I am willing to analysis Amélie Poulain, who falls in love with Nino Quincampoix at the end of the movie. The movie has given me a great pleasure by setting mystery plot that not only challenge my daily experience, but also challenge my limitation of my thought. I also prefer the film that full of the heart of compassion and human warmth. By watching this movie you can feel the pleasure after you saw the smiles appear on the people who Amélie gives warm help. The reason that why are Amélie willing to others and lead a happy is she keeps her childlike innocence all along.
The movie, Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain is a comedy, the story of a shy, imaginative woman who decides to change the world by changing the lives of the people she knows. Since she found she could get a lot of fun by helping people, Amélie become a sunny angle to the one who need help. Also she got her true love during the helping. After close reading this movie, I recognized that we’d better to keep childlike innocence during our short life that can lead us happy and color. Also helping other can bring you much more enjoyable feeling. The goal of this movie I think is telling people to have a kind heart to others and have an eye, which can figure out the beauty to life. So as to myself, I may try to do the things like her, wearing smile on my face to bring good feeling to others, being ready to help anyone who need a hand, keeping my childlike innocence to find the beauty of life.
There are two characters that keep their childlike innocence along growing up in this movie. Both Amélie Poulain and Nino Quincampoix have a childhood, which is the agreeable melancholy. They felt lonely so they always tried to do something to pleasure them. Amélie Poulain imagined her has animal buddies and play with them; she also used her mind to change the clouds in her eye. Nino Quincampoix used mirror to reflex the sunlight to be a signal to somewhere, played marbles in school. Just the boring and lonely childhood gives them an eye that can find the tiny but interesting things and eccentricity that brings happy to their life，also gives them a pure and kind heart. The kind Amélie becomes a secret guardian angel to others after she grew up and helped the old man to remember his happy childhood. She escorts a blind old man to the Metro station, giving him a rich description of the street scenes he passes. She persuades her father to follow his dream of touring the world by stealing his garden gnome and having a stewardess friend send pictures of it posing with landmarks from all over the world. Amélie really enjoys the happy feeling that after help others, so use her childlike innocence to design the helping simply and straightforward. Nino Quincampoix is a funny guy who collects the ID photos of different people and guess who they are. He also has childlike innocence, which lead him meet with Amélie and fall in love with her. I think both Amélie and Nino do not have enough courage to show their love, the reason is they had a lonely childhood, which lead them have the shy emotional contact. This is also evidence that they keep childlike innocence. Amélie is an amazing girl, who can escape the detention of the reality to make her even the others’ lives have sparks and full of happiness.
The childlike innocence is really a good thing for us. We need it to find the happiness and color our life.
Reading this fiction so far, I have a lot of interesting in Cal’s grandma, Desidoma. The most interesting parts are in “an immodest proppsal” and “the silk road”. Those two chapters are talking about how Cal’s grandparents get together and immigrant to USA.
Desdemona is a very interesting woman, who changed when her in ols age I think. When the decide to move to USA, the first thing came to her is the “silk” that indicate she is smart, she knows how to operate her new life. She does not like to try something new because she may is a conserviative person.
After read four chapters, I realize the author talks about his or her grandparents a lot. Why does she or he do that? I don’t think it just tell us the background.
After read chapter2 of Middlesex, I just curious, is Cal very proud of her hermaphrodite?
The chapter 3 is very interesting, and I really enjoy yhis chapter. Cal lead a man’s life and she tells us how she uses the men’s washroom, though not the urinal, and wears a double-breasted suit, gleaming wing tips, and his smoking.
Everyone in this world must have their own story, which just hidden in everyone’s behind. When we walk on the street or in the class, we can try to imagine what kind of stories do the people have. The movie Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain leave me a thought, if we can keep childlike innocence, we can lead a happy and colorful life. We all used to be children who may operates trite life, even we have so many dazzling fantasy for our life, later on we have to surrender to the world that full of reality. There is no wing, which can take us fly in the real world, either no magic that can let us be brave when face to wind and waves, so we can only choose another life, the life of an adult, a life that should farewell the daydream. Although we have to accept our life, a white boring paper, we can try to call us childlike innocence to paint the color on. Amélie is an amazing girl, who can escape the detention of the reality to make her even the others’ lives have sparks and full of happiness.
Amélie, a “child” who can help a fifty years old lonely man to call back his happy memory in his childhood; a “child” who can make her father’s Santa to travel around the world; a “child” who can describe this beautiful world for the blind. Just because she keeps a positive attitude toward her world, the world gives her more happiness than gives any other people. Sometime I am thinking is my life full of happiness? Did I have an eye, which can detect the beauty in my life? This movie pure my soul and bring me fresh.
When I have the first look of this movie, I am really interested in the childhood of little Amélie. Her father thought Amélie has heart disease so that Amélie does not go to school and no peer play with her. But her childlike innocence breaks her lonely life. She always imagines her animal buddies and in her eyes the clouds could have very interesting shapes. As a little girl in long time ago, unlike to Amélie’s father my parents give me freedom to do anything I want, so I never feel lonely in my childhood. So I was very curious that how can Amélie lead her colorful life, but which also full of loneliness. After I grow up, I come to understand Amélie. Her happiness is from the childlike innocence, what I need to color my own boring life.
There are many ideas, emotions, and feelings that come to mind when I wa watching this movie at the second time. The most important thing that can be got from Amélie is ready to help anyone around us. After we helped people, we can share their happiness. Just like Amélie, when she describes the street, the stores, the customers, the food even the potpourri, she also can absorbs happiness from the beautiful goods. The term “help” can be extended. When we were children, we play games with our little buddies; this may be one type of “help”. When we make them feel happy, at the same time, we also share the happiness from them. Actually, what we gained may more than what we paid. When we grow up, we not only are responsible to ourselves, but also we need to be response to the society, the world we lived in. The motto of Harvard University said: Enter to grow in knowledge, depart to better serve the country and the kind. What I realized is we need to help the society to achieve our self-worth to gain the happiness. This is also a type of help. The “help” make sense to happiness for anyone. If we keep our childlike innocence, we will lead this complicated world become simple, which we are helping others for nothing, we are willing to share.
Amélie got her true love at the end of the movie. At the beginning, she did not have enough courage to face the man she loved, also she afraid to face her own heart and thought. Sometimes I also have this situation, which I do not have courage to open my mind, but after missed I will regret. The God will give chance to those people who have enough courage and be brave to face with anything. Amélie step further for her love at the end with her brave then she obtained her happiness.
Above all, I want to be a person likely Amélie stay happy in my life with my childlike innocence.
After I read the inquiry samples I think both of them show the main argument clearly. Also I have my idea that how to organized my material , which will show on my own inquiry better. For the first one, the author summary the book ” the books of lost things” to give audience a background and analysis the details to do his argument.
After read the first chapter one ” The Silver Spoon” of Middlesex, I just want to ask is that the body temperature of female can decides the sex of the baby? Also, the author describe a lot how “her or his” parents try to get a daughter and how the grandma use spoon to predict the sex of the baby. Is that the foreshadowing of the middlesex of herself of himself abter 16 years?
